In recent years, visual content on social media has skyrocketed. Storytelling with images and text has given users an exciting way to digest content. Here are five reason why being a visual storyteller is key in online marketing.

visual storytelling

The purpose of visual storytelling is to organize information in a manner that will educate readers on that key topic and keep their attention from start to finish. A study has shown that 90% of information transmitted to the brain is visual, and on average visual images can be processed up to 60,000 times faster in the brain than text. Visual storytelling takes advantage of this 90% and get the point across in a direct and simple way.

Once you have the graphic, there is absolutely nothing stopping you from using it on social media. Tap into the world wide web and share your information with as many people as possible! Have you ever scrolled through your Facebook feed and shared a post about the latest Nike runners or ‘Liked’ a post by BuzzFeed? If you have, then you’ve already seen how friendly visual content is on social media. It makes spreading the word that much easier.

Now, imagine this blog with no images –  just text. It may get the point across, but most likely you and many others will just skim over it and only focus on the juicy parts. The idea of visual aids in storytelling is to help connect the audience to the content in a way that text alone can not. Say farewell to the overwhelming clutter of online content and enjoy a quick visual snapshot of content and ideas!

It’s important to remember to show your products with an image – especially a quality one with some design effort as 60% of consumers are more likely to click on a business where their image appears in a search result. For B2B or SaaS companies this may be your icon or logo. According to a 6 month campaign analysis from over 15 advertisers, social media agency Laundry Service found normal photos received a 2.35% CTR, whereas designed photos received CTRs as high as 8%. Fun fact! Sales also mirrored that affect and increased conversion rates by 25%.

One of the most effective ways to connect with your audience is through a visually appealing graphic. You can grow traffic to your business an average of 12% more using an infographic compared to businesses that don’t. Infographics are a highly appealing way to connect with your audience. It is one of the most efficient ways to communicate important information without using text by itself.

There’s no doubt that visuals are important both now and in the future. Get ahead of the game and use graphics and imagery to your advantage and you will see the response from prospects and customers.

Will you be using visual storytelling for your online marketing efforts?
