Let’s Ask Google: Why Should I Blog?

Michael Stevens

Often times at Spark we’re asked by our clients “Why Should I Blog?”. I think that the fact that you stumbled upon this blog and are reading it right now is a great example. Having a blog section on your website is multifaceted. Not only is it great practice in social media management, but with great content, a blog has considerable reach in search engine optimization, or SEO. Let me give you the rundown of what I’ll typically tell a client who is hesitant on blogging.

Blogs Show You’re a Leader

You’re reading this right now and probably thinking one thing: “Wow, not only is this guy very cool, but he also knows what he’s talking about!”. By including a blog on your website, visitors have the chance to gain more of an insight on what you stand for. Based on your content marketing and what you choose to discuss in your blog, visitors are able to get a sense that you are an expert in what you do.

You’re a leader in your industry. Are you the first in the country to offer a specific surgery at your dental office? Blog about it! Did you just attend a conference on the latest and greatest technological advances in your industry? Blog about it! This unique insight is a viewpoint that only you can offer, and that your readers will love. This is what you do for a living, you know what you’re talking about, and this translates to the readers of the blog. You gain major credibility and will soon be a leading voice in your industry.

Blogs Show You’re Accessible

Blogs are personable. You can write what you want and begin a conversation with readers. Instead of being a faceless brand, you can offer your unique voice and develop a relationship with your audience. Through social media management, you can share your blog across social media to reach new audiences and engage in discussion through the comment section. By engaging and interacting, you become accessible and relatable to potential clients. It leaves a lasting impression that you’re not just a brand, but a real, breathing, relatable human.

Content is Key

The main purpose of blogging is to generate great content. The above outcomes of industry leadership and accessibility are impossible without content to back them up. Content marketing is the backbone of the blog. With this, comes the hidden gem of SEO. Google LOVES content. In their latest algothirm, Hummingbird, Google changed the way that pages are ranked. Now, websites with unique, creative, interesting, and real content are rewarded and rank higher on Google. So, instead of pages loaded with links and spam, the internet is becoming a much friendlier place filled with creative blogs.

This is why content marketing has become so important and has a direct affect on SEO. Within your blog content, you’ll probably make mention of specific topics multiple times. With correct SEO management, these keywords will be picked up by Google and begin to gain traction and favourable results on search engines. So not only are you now an industry leader and accessible to potential clients, but your page ranking on Google will begin to rise, offering even more business opportunities to come.

If you’ve been hesitant about blogging in the past, I hope I’ve offered some insight on the importance of blogs. Did I happen to mention that Spark specializes in SEO and writing creative content? If you have any more questions, please let us know in the comments and we’d be happy to help you out!
