Social Media: Taking the Lead for Holiday Shopping

With November upon us, the inevitable holiday shopping list is on most of our minds. For decades, shoppers have looked to more traditional means such as television commercials and magazine ads for inspiration on the perfect gift. The influence of social media has been gaining momentum over the last few years and according to Crowdtap, this is the year it will be taking the lead when it comes to holiday shopping.

According to Crowdtap’s research, 64.8% of shoppers use social media to find the perfect gift. One fact that is important to distinguish is that it is peer recommendations via social media that is the driving force, i.e. earned media not paid media. Sorry Facebook!
