Social Media Marketing for Hotels

Clive Lobo

Believe it or not, there is a huge potential for hotels to be marketing on social media. With resorts and hotels being in such a competitive industry, they’re not really in the business of selling rooms. What they’re actually selling is an experience. And with exception of maybe a few “no frills” low-end motels, it’s important to provide an amazing experience in order to grow. Both new and existing customers are looking for a great experience above all else. If you’re a hotel that provides an incredible experience, how can you remind your existing customers and share it with potential customers before they’ve tried you out?

Here are three great ways that hotels can connect with their target audience online and share the amazing experience they provide:

  1. Facebook Ads and Offers
Hotels can run a variety of ads on Facebook, but those with an offer are especially effective. Sharing a beautiful photo with the right caption and getting in the front of the right people on Facebook can be insanely successful. Adding in an offer adds pressure for users to move quickly and make a purchase decision, rather than forgetting about it moments after they see the ad. Below is an example of a highly successful Facebook campaign we did for a high-end resort in Barbados.

  2. Pinterest
This is a great tool for hotels because, 1) it’s very visual and displays experiences well, and 2) its most active users are women. Studies consistently show that women make the majority of traveling decisions. If you want to use Pinterest to market your hotel, don’t just share beautiful photos of the establishment – it’ll get old fast. Pin anything related that will remind your target audience of the great time they will have at your establishment; the geographical area, related activities, even the food!
  3. User-generated Content
Finally, don’t be the only one telling the story. Have people share their own experience. Getting your existing customers engaged by sharing their experience with their network will cement their loyalty to you, and also create a great environment for their friends and family to discover you as well. Ask customers to share photos and videos of their time at your establishment on Instagram and Vine with a designated hashtag to win a prize.

There is so much opportunity for hotels and resorts to stand out online and differentiate themselves from the competition. However, in this industry it is especially important to do things professionally. Only use high quality photo and video, and consult an expert before you run any campaigns. It’s important to build your social media campaign on quality and trust. Let us know if you need any help.
