An ASCII Text Browser – See What Your Site Looks Like To The Search Engines!

Clive Lobo

One of the most important things you can do for your Search Engine Optimization is to ensure your website has enough text based content to appear relevant to the search engines for your keywords.

Separating the text from the graphics and layout is not an easy task to do in your head. In fact, it’s impossible. The design always gets in the way. More over, the way the text appears in the browser visually is not the order in which the search engine spiders the content. There are a few tools out there which will let you browse the Internet in a text only mode such as Lynx. However, it’s not a user friendly application. What I found to be better is to “spot check” pages when necessary using an ASCII page viewer.  I suggest you give it a try and see what your website looks like with just the text! You’ll be surprised and motivated to make some changes!
